What to expect notes that losing your mucus plug what they describe as a clear sticky gelatinous glob of mucus is a clear sign your cervix is dilating however it might come out in small.
Some have a thick circular plug and others just a copious amount of mucus. Could i be dilated more than 2 3 without losing it. People can speak to a doctor or midwife about any mucus tinged. You might have just lost a small piece of it. I was at 3 cms the last 3 5 weeks with my son and didn t lose my mucous plug until about 2 weeks before delivery.

I had my 39 week appt yesterday and i was dilated to a 1 5 2 70 effaced and then this morning i lost a large chunk of my mucus plug. Since the plug is what is blocking the opening in your cervix the opening must change in order to lose the plug. I was almost 2cm at 30ish weeks. Absolutely you can dilate without feeling it.
Thanks so much ladies. The reality is that not everyone has a trueplug. Losing your plug is a sign of dilation. So no you can not dilate without losing.
I remember it very clearly from last time. Yes you can go into labor without passing a mucus plug. I was checked yesterday and am 2 cm s dilated and 80 effaced and definitely haven t lost my plug.
