Can You Go Into Labor Without Losing Your Mucus Plug

It s possible to lose the mucus plug weeks before going into labor.
It varies from person to person. If you are having strong contractions 3 5 minutes apart for an hour you could be in labor even without bloody show or loss of mucous plug. Just try to let nature take its course as challenging as that can be in the exciting time leading up to labor and delivery. The pains you are having could be telling you to slow down.
Some have a thick circular plug and others just a copious amount of mucus. For many women they never lose their mucus plug until their bag of waters breaks. Or they could be a precursor to genuine labor. My first pregnancy my water broke and the plug came out at the same time my second i lost the plug but the doctor broke my water.
Not losing your mucus plug does not mean that your labor is nowhere near. It can be clear white green yellow slightly pink or brown kinda like the mucus that expels from your nose and throat normally though they are off white with streaks of pink. People can speak to a doctor or midwife about any mucus tinged. The reality is that not everyone has a trueplug.

It has a gelatinous look and is thick while in the cervix but typically becomes thin and more liquid once expelled. It is entirely possible a lot of women either don t notice when they loose it or loose it during much later stages of labor. The burning feeling and vaginal pressure i think you. The mucus plug is about 4 5 centimeters long or about 1 ounce in volume.
You can go into labor without it. Some women might even lose their mucus plug but the plug might rebuild.
