Can You Have Tattoos As A Cop
Camila Farah
Typically police departments with strict tattoo policies mention the restrictions on the application or during orientation.
If you re not used to seeing police officers with full sleeve tattoos it can be an eye opener the first time even for a sworn officer working in a strict tattoo policy agency like myself. Even if tattoos are allowed however none of the tattoos can be vulgar or racist. Once it was determined the tattooed man was indeed a police officer. Why not get the tattoo in a place that can be covered up for work.
Of course there are exceptions to the rule. I ve seen certain departments require that police officers have no visible tattoos while others require you to cover with make up or skin tone sleeves your tattoos whenever you re in uniform. Some police departments allow officers to have visible tattoos if they are not gang related or offensive and others don t. Some tattoos are not allowed according to police scotland s uniform and appearance standards some tattoos are not acceptable.
Police agency tattoo policies vary widely across the nation and include everything from agencies do not allow visible tattoos on the neck and face to agencies that prohibit any visible tattoos at all. Other departments don t have this stipulation. Your tattoos do not cover your face neck or hands. Usually the motto is that if you can conceal your tattoos you can be a possible recruit.

Police don t have to cover up tattoos unless they are. Although the home office guidance in respect of tattoos on police officers does not explicitly prohibit body art several forces including the metropolitan police have instituted outright bans on.
