Can You Substitute Buttermilk For Sour Cream
Olivia Luz
Buttermilk and sour milk are the next best options to swap for sour cream but they are not quite as thick.
You can use buttermilk instead of sour cream in a baked recipe but the buttermilk is more liquid. So you ll need to add butter to get the same body. In baking we d recommend only using 3 4 cup of buttermilk for every cup of sour. Buttermilk can be used as part of a substitute for sour cream when combined with other dairy ingredients.
If you are baking use 3 4 cup buttermilk or sour milk plus 1 3 cup of softened unsalted butter for 1 cup sour cream. Adding some softened butter can improve the texture.
