I M Nobody Who Are You Poem
Olivia Luz
Who are you is a short lyric poem by emily dickinson first published in 1891 in poems series 2.
Would you find it dreary to be a somebody or would you like to be famous. And yet i am. Dickinson revealed her disdain for publicity in many of her poems. It is one of dickinson s most popular poems.
I remember this poem from my childhood many years ago. The poem is composed of two quatrains and with an exception of the first line the rhythm alternates between iambic tetrameter and iambic trimeter. In one poem she proclaimed that publication was fornication of the soul thus equating the published poem to the sold body. Other times it was a serious statement of how i felt at a particular time.
Yet what i am none cares or knows my friends forsake me like a memory lost. The poem employs alliteration anaphora simile satire and internal rhyme. I am the self consumer of my woes they rise and vanish in oblivious host like shades in love and death s oblivion lost. This poem directly addresses someone so it would be a really good one to speak to another person.
