In the field of social psychology illusory superiority is a condition of cognitive bias wherein a person overestimates their own qualities and abilities in relation to the same qualities and abilities of other people.
This word shows that you do not like people like this. But they typically still don t think they re quite as good as people who you know actually are good. Rather it s that incompetent people think they re much better than they actually are. That s just the way the finding is often interpreted by others.
Are these people actually smart. Just to be clear i don t mean those who think they re smart but do dumb things. When will smartness not be needed. Managing relationships with people who always think they re right can be challenging.
Because that has nothing to do with being smart or dumb. That s just certain people being o. Do you mean when they show off how smart they are unnecessarily to boost their ego. It s important to note that dunning and kruger never claimed to show that the unskilled think they re better than the skilled.

Of course this does not mean that smart people always think everyone else is right. Psychologists discovered the dunning kruger effect which says that people who are less competent or bright consistently overestimate their mental abilities while intelligent people are far more. They don t have all the answers. How difficulties in recognizing one s own incompetence lead to inflated self assessments.
