Can You Deadlift On A Smith Machine
Olivia Luz
I would recommend dumbbell deadlifts and farmer s walks but it won t fully compensate for deadlifting with a real barbell.
It s when you do a partial deadlift on a squat power rack or smith machine by placing the bar higher than the bar would normally rest if it were on the ground i e. 2 you don t have as much control. At the top of the movement you may even fail to lockout the weight properly. If you understand the movement and what it s supposed to do you would realize that you can t do it on a smith machine.
Yes it s definitely possible to deadlift on the smith machine and build some serious muscle and strength doing so. The goal of deadlifting on a smith machines is to work the back muscles. Your range of motion is limited to straight up and down while your body actually needs to compensate for the weight on the lift by making minor adjustments to protect yourself. In addition chest up and a backwards pushed butts position is not ideal because the hamstrings and glutes muscles for lifting are not enlarged.
Therefore the hip movement is essential. It s much safer to go free weight man. Only partial rom deadlifts using a smith machine deadlifts off of the floor recruit an incredibly large amount of musculature much for stabilization as well i feel that using the smith machine to deadlift will restrict a portion of your rom range of motion. Squatting will not help meet this goal.
