However it can sneak into many ready to eat foods such as hot dogs and deli meats because contamination may occur after cooking and before packaging. It can be difficult to figure out what you can and can t eat when you are pregnant. So as we said before it is ok to consume hot dogs during pregnancy as long as you cook it at a high temperature of 160 degrees fahrenheit. The off limits list seems to increase in size with every passing year.
Cooking kills the bacteria. Although it is said that they can be eaten by expectant mothers when heated to 160 170 degrees fahrenheit for two minutes you may want to avoid hot dogs during pregnancy as they may still carry the listeria bacteria. Yet even if you feel a craving for hot dogs during pregnancy it is better to avoid them especially if they are not completely heated above 160 degrees fahrenheit. You can safely eat these if they are heated to steaming and served hot pre stuffed fresh turkey or chicken steak tartare or any.
That said it is also not necessarily healthy. And listeria is easily killed by cooking the meat thoroughly. We cook them on the bbq so i think it should be ok and i had about 3 during my whole pregnancy. You are pregnant and you like eating hotdogs.
