Can You Use A Guitar Amp For Bass
Olivia Luz
This is a great question and there are two distinct parts.
Sit down with your bass guitar in your lap as you d normally do while playing and rest your chin on the upper horn of the bass. If possible use software to lower bass volume. One of my favorite cabs for guitar is an old very old from the 60 s guild thunderbass cab that has two 15 inch altec speakers in it i call it my jerry cab and can give wonderful garcia like tones when coupled with the right head but makes a lousy bass. I guess the thrust of the question is more will i get a satisfying sound playing electric guitar through a bass amp.
Yes you can but there is a reason why there are bass and treble guitar amps. Caution needs to be used as excessive recoil caused by high volume and the low frequencies can distort the sound and even damage the speakers. However guitar amp speakers are thinner and not intended for the low frequencies a bass guitar can create. Here are a few tricks to hear your bass guitar better if you re without a bass amp and need to practice.
If you really want to listen to more bass oriented music then you could always lower the bass a little bit with music software. Technically yes playing electric guitar through a bass amp can be done nothing will break no one will get hurt. Treble guitar amps have a pre amp which best suits a treble guitar s ability and frequency response and the same goes for a bass amp you may find that the frequency response of the treble amp with your bass guitar may not be as good as you would like especially with low frequency notes such as 100hz or lower. In short yes you can use a guitar amp with both active and passive bass guitars at low volumes.
