Can You Use Pvc Pipe For Dryer Vent
Camila Farah
For one pvc has a rather low maximum operating temperature.
Because all types are sold for use with dryers you would naturally assume that all are suitable for this application. Although a lot of building codes still allow pvc pipes for dryer vents is best not to use this type of materials knowing the hazards it can cause. 1 how do i know the length limit of the piping before head loss will not allow the dryer to vent and 2 if i have to reduce the pvc piping from 4 inches to 3 inches where it goes through a 2 x 4 will that be a problem. Pvc pipe is fantastic for many different applications and it is even sometimes used for duct and venting applications but there are a few reasons why pvc pipe is not a great choice for dryer vents.
Always check for lint accumulation loose screws and other issues that may make your venting less efficient. Cut the pipe several inches above the existing fitting. All pvc pipe and fittings have a max operating temp of 140 degrees fahrenheit. You may be able just reconnect it and lower it an inch or two only using the one coupling.
Now i m not an expert but i m pretty sure that s not how dryer vents should work. Just get a new piece of pvc pipe and 2 couplings. Poly vinyl chloride pvc white pipe and fittings are used in sanitary drain waste and vent dwv sewer and storm drainage applications. Vinyl duct and in some situations all flexible duct is not allowed by building codes.

Why not use pvc for your dryer vent. Not for pressure use. They are used in gravity fed waste elimination systems and are for non pressure systems where temperatures will not exceed 140 f. Add a coupling to the piece of pipe with the fitting.
No matter what material you use it can still cause possible fires due to clogging of vents so always clean your vents regularly. You don t even need the dryer box.
